Pathfinder - A Hero's Welcome

Pathfinder - A Hero's Welcome

Written by
Norman Bailey
The story tells of World War II hero, Barnsley Peterson, who answers the call for British Commonwealth citizens to help with Britain’s post-war regeneration. But the hero’s welcome he expects is harder to come by than he anticipates.

The story tells how he navigates the hostile environment, and make a new life.

A Hero’s Welcome reflect the highs, the lows, the tragedies and triumphs of many post-war migration stories.

Pathfinder: The Beginning

Like most good things, Pathfinder began as a story.  That story is Pathfinder: A Hero’s Welcome. Norman Bailey wrote the story as part of the Courtauld Institute’s Conway Storytellers project.
Based on real events, A Hero’s Welcome is based on real events. It is peppered with verbatim testimony from archival material associated with African/Afro-Caribbean British heritage.
The story sheds new light on the post-WWII migration story. The story uncovers hidden layers of London’s cultural, and historical landscape.

Pathfinder: The Future

Project Pathfinder is a now  community archaeology project, which commemorates and celebrates important Caribbean British history.

The Pathfinders Project is an opportunity to uncover and share these stories and deepen the public conversation about the past, present and future of modern multicultural Britain.

This community archaeology project tells the stories of the communities, places, and events related to early and mid-20th century British Caribbean experience.   Specifically, Pathfinder uncovers the stories of the people known as the Windrush Generation.
